Online Courses on Digital Participation Platforms
Category: Instructional design
Date: October 1, 2023
Developed and published on TalentLMS, these online courses guide learners through the process of selecting, setting up, and utilizing digital participation platforms tailored to their specific needs and contexts. The content, derived from the Civic Tech Field Guide and Digital Participation Platform Ratings, is designed to provide actionable insights and practical tools for effective digital engagement.
The training is structured into five comprehensive courses that progressively build learners' understanding. Starting with an introduction to digital participation, the curriculum moves through platform selection, setup, and process management. This scaffolded approach ensures learners can absorb complex information incrementally, minimizing cognitive load.
To date, more than 150 learners have successfully completed the courses, with the majority of participants hailing from the Global South, reflecting a broad and diverse reach. For students in the process of completing the courses, I implemented automated notification systems to encourage engagement and ensure completion, providing timely interventions that have helped boost course completion rates.
To enhance interactivity and user experience, custom JavaScript functionality was implemented, overcoming the limitations of TalentLMS’s built-in tools. Features such as buttons, accordions, and tabs were integrated to improve navigation and visual appeal, resulting in a more engaging and effective learning experience.
